A short flight from Colombo brought us to the Republic of Maldives. This island nation is the smallest Asian country by land area, but it is well known for resorts enjoyed by many foreign vacationers. The international airport is on Hulhule Island which adjacent to the capital city of Male. The modern Sinamale Bridge connecting the popular Hulhule island and Hulhumale, the Artificial island. The Hotel Avenue and Spa where we stayed for 4 days in the Maldives is located on Hulhumale Island. It had a beautiful view of the ocean and white sand beaches. It's about 20 minute walk to the ferry terminal to go to Male City.
We learned that Friday is the religious holiday in the Maldives. Markets, restaurants, business etc...are closed for the day. Only a few shops in tourist area opened in the afternoon. In private island resorts, business goes on as usual on Fridays.
