Bath and Aurora, NC : Nice towns to visit : Historic Bath (about 120 miles from Raleigh) located in Beaufort County. From Bath, we tood a Bay View-Aurora ferry to cross the Pamlico River to Aurora to visit the Aurora Fossil Museum.

Aurora Fossil Museum has large displays of marine fossils from Eastern North Carolina.

Carthage, NC: About an hour drive south of Raleigh. There is a good BBQ restaurant called Pik N Pig where diners can enjoy lunch while watching airplanes taking off and landing on the airstrip behind the restaurant.
