Rouen, France - Fall 2019

It took almost an hour to reach Rouen train station from Giverny. A short local metro ride brought us into the heart of the historic city center. It was a bit tricky to find the metro station and to buy tickets from a machine. Thanks to Michelle's guide book and research in advance, we had a successful and timely connection on the metro.

RouenThe capital of Normandy has fabulous medieval streets that have been maintained beautifully. Its gorgeous Gothic architecture along with history of Joan of Arc's martyrdom remain a top tourist attraction in this historic city. The Place du Vieux Marche (Old Market) is best known as the spot where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake. It's an interesting area to walk around and people watch.

Gros-Horloge, the astronomic clock in Rouen old town. It has no "minute" hand.

We left right after the sunset to catch the train back to Paris.  Wish we had had more time to enjoy Rouen, especially the ambience and dining in the Place du Vieux Marche!. At the time we left, shops, cafes and restaurants came to life. All lit up beautifully ready for tourists' night in the town.
