Along the way, we passed a monastery perched on a hill in Main Ma Ye'Tha-Khin Ma Mountain.

We were glad when we made it to Inle Lake after a long shared taxi ride. Our driver dropped us off in front of our hotel, The Inle Star.

These long, narrow boats are used for transporting people as well as freight. They are very graceful and well balanced while cruising the lake. |
To take a tour of Inle Lake, you need to go by boat. It's a full day to see the way of life of the ethnic minority group called the Intha who live in the stilt houses on the lake.
We shared a boat with Jacklyn, a French lady who was traveling by herself. The boat captain was our tour guide. We saw fishermen, farmers working their floating gardens, and visited work shops that made lotus silk products, jewelry, cigars, as well as beautiful pagodas and temples on the lake.
The traditional Intha fishermen on the lake use a very distinctive method to row their boat and to fish. They use their leg to row the boat and a conical net to trap the fish.

The Intha people use floating gardens to grow their vegetables. This method is very productive. Bamboo poles are used to anchor the garden to the lake bed.
