Obidos, Portugal - October, 2023alt

Our Douro cruise trip includes two days in Lisbon at the end. The tour bus picked us up at Leverinho pier for Lisbon departure. It had been raining the past few days and today was no exception. The bus trip should take a little over 3 hours with a stop at Obidos for lunch.

Even in the rain, we were happy to make a stop to visit Obidos for a few hours. Obidos, also is called "City of Literature", located in historical district of Leiria. It is an UNESCO City of Literature Site since 2015. Obidos remains a well-preserved example of medieval architecture, streets, squares, walls and its castle are popular tourist destinations.

A restaurant in the town's marketplace served the delicacy and traditional snack/dish "Pastel de Bacalhau" (codfish fritters). It pairs perfectly with port wine.
