Andrew's Graduation

A few days after coming back from VA, we packed and got ready for our trip to Rochester, MN for Andrew's graduation. It's a great celebration as Andrew completed his 8 years with Mayo Medical and Mayo Graduate Schools.

Andrew, Jen, Carter and Sawyer drove from Houston for two days to get to Rochester. Dee and Dennis flew in from Fresno and Michelle from Boston to surprise Andrew. We all stayed at the same hotel, not too far from Rochester 's Civic Center where the graduation ceremony would be held. It seemed strange that we stayed at a hotel instead of A's & J's house which was recently sold.

The night before the graduation, we were invited to attend a reception for the Graduate students and their families at the Plummer House.

The graduation was held in the Rochester Civic Center.  We arrived early to make sure we got good seats.

We were all very proud when Andrew got up to get his PhD from Mayo Graduate School and  then again when he got his MD from Mayo Medical School.  Following the ceremony, there was a reception for the graduates and their guests.

After a great weekend spending time with Andrew and his family, Michelle, Dee and Dennis, we left for Raleigh.  However, on our flight out of Minneapolis, we were 'Bumped' from our flight due to overbooking.  Delta compensated us with vouchers for meals, put us up in a hotel for the night, and flew us back to Raleigh the next morning in first class.

Rochester, MN

We were excited to leave for Rochester, MN on Saturday, March 24. Sawyer's baptism was scheduled on Sunday. Due to the very mild winter this year, we were glad not to face the typical cold winter days of Minnesota!. The baptismal service was very nice. Sawyer and one other baby were being baptised the same day. Both babies did very well and made their families proud. Carter had a big grin on his face and was proud to be a big brother when he came up to the altar. We were happy to be there on Sawyer's special day.

After church, Andrew and Jennifer treated us a brunch at one of their favorite restaurants, Pescara in the Doubletree Hotel...It was an enjoyable Sunday in Rochester!.

Happy New Year!

We are grateful this Holiday Season having the children and grandchildren with us. Andrew and family were with us during Christmastime. Michelle and Seth arrived in Raleigh late Thursday, December 29 to help us ringing in the New Year's.

On New Year's Day, we left Raleigh early in the morning for a two hour drive to Topsail Island for the Dolphin Dip event. As New Year tradition, Paul has participated in the event every year since 2005, our first year we have our condo at Surf City. It's quite special this year since Paul could persuade Andrew and Michelle to join him. We made it to the condo with over an hour to spare.

New Years day on the way to Surf City pier.

It was a beautiful day at the beach. The weather was in the 70s with sunny, blue sky. The water was cold though!. Paul, Andrew and Michelle did the "dip" with about a thousand others. Jen, Carter, Sawyer and I were happy to be watchers!.

We wish you a Happy 2012.
